Our ability to receive joy…
All of our mothers, no matter how much they loved us, were sadly raised in a very patriarchal society. One that did not allow the feminine qualities to be heard, rise and be honoured.
The qualities of personal truth, personal joy and a sense of permission.
Choices were made for our mothers. Their own voice was diminished.
Our mothers and grannies raised daughters with a deep sense of loss within themselves. So many dreams buried along the way.
As girls, we watched our mothers, quietly and subconsciously and internalized this
Sometimes our mothers gave up their childhood to raise younger siblings
Sometimes we were the ones who played this role when a mother was not able to.
Both situations create intense effects that play out through the generations.
It can be hard to give ourselves permission for our own truth, to allow and receive joy for ourselves
when deep in our own heart we know there is so much unsaid and unlived experiences within our dear mothers.
A mother’s energy and that of her daughter is so much more closely connected and entwined than one realizes.
A mother and daughter unknowingly pass down generations upon generations of how they see themselves as women.
Earlier this week I shared this quote in my newsletter to my subscribers:
Every woman who heals herself, helps heal all the women who came before her and all those who come after her. – Christiane Northrup
It takes courage to look back so that we can easier move forward.
I believe the rewards are deep deep compassion for our mothers. A deeper love for them. Unconditional acceptance for the path they have walked.
…AND… a growing feeling that it is OK to RECEIVE goodness for ourselves.
~It is vital to have a separate identity and voice to that of our mother while still being a daughter to her. This has very much been my own personal experience too.
– Vital to let go of any unconscious guilt about living a richer fuller life than the precious women who have come before us
I would like to share an excellent website that has so many articles that explains this so much better than I have here.
