Taking the time to reflect on how we walk in this world, actually feels very empowering and interesting too.
I was asked by someone on Instagram to share 20 things about myself, so here they are:
The older I become, the more I get to see that there are two very distinctive sides to me… the quiet, gentle, reflective, meditative, deep thinker who needs stillness, soulful conversations and lots of time in nature…. but there is also a part of me that loves a sense of merriment, laughter and happily chatting to others.
My younger self
I was 16 when I knew I wanted to be a teacher.
That same year I did a nature painting to bring hope and light to my grieving granny.
I was 20 when I knew I wanted to make a difference through my art.
As a young toddler, I insisted on wearing only red shoes and asked for a red carpet for my bedroom.
Sunshine yellow was the other colour that filled my room. I asked my dad to place a yellow lightbulb in my bedside lamp and it cast this gorgeous warm glow in my room at night.
I loved our garden so much. It was the gentleness of the colour green and the play of light and shadows on the lawn that kept drawing me outside. Our red apple trees felt very uplifting and charming for me to look at. In nature I felt very very connected… a deep peace and contentment. This garden was also the place where I thrived playing with friends too.
The colour green feels like my soul colour and the colours red, yellow and orange feel like the colours that hold my personal soul lessons for this lifetime.
I used to dance a lot when i was a younger woman, I actually make time to dance daily now as a balance to my regular meditation practice. It really combines the reflective with the expressive.
The most powerful question I asked myself was: Who am I without the title of wife and mother. This question found me when I became a single mom. I spent way too many years placing my own dreams and desires at the end of the line. I defined myself within these roles and my own dreams became. I know now that I am so much more than these roles.
I will be 50 in a few months time and it has taken this milestone to ask myself what kind of woman I wish to be from now on.
Pets, kids, morning routine …
I am a passionate animal lover and I have had a dog as a pet since the age of 1.
I have two precious rescue dogs, Katy and Harry.
My sons are 16 and 18 years old and I really miss their younger days, when we gardened and painted together.
I do though believe in giving ones children wings, even if that’s all we get to do properly as a parent.
I begin each day before sunrise, quietly on the couch with my morning cuppa, journal and meditation time. This for me is the most sacred time of day because a new day brings hope and possibility.
Comedies and romantic dramas are my favourite movies to watch.
Meryl Streep and Diane Keaton are two of my favourite actresses.
If you are reading this, thank you for taking the time. I love reading about the daily moments of other artists too … who they actually are behind the paintings they create…. how they walk in this world when not painting.
